Joshua B. Austein, DMD
I’ve been fortunate enough to know since childhood what I wanted to be when I grew up. My passion for dentistry stemmed from my own early experiences with my dentist in his dental chair. I was enthralled with his ability to make dentistry exciting. He was able to give patient his undivided attention, and I recognized how his work changed their lives. Those are values which both of us share.
After recognizing my dream of becoming a dentist, I set to work on making my dream a reality. This began with obtaining my undergraduate degree as a Presidential Scholar at the University at Albany. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology and graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude. Next I obtained my Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, elected each year to student council, as well as being President of my graduating class. I was selected to be a member of Gamma Pi Delta, a Prosthodontic Honor Society and graduated with Dean's list recognition. Following dental school, I received postgraduate training at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) where I completed a General Practice Residency. Currently I am a volunteer dental attending for the current dental residents at HUMC.
Dentistry is not only what I do professional, but it is something I deeply care about. In order to stay connect and involved with the dental community I participate in organized dentistry both nationally and locally. I do so with membership in the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry where I am in the process of obtaining my fellowship, and the New York Academy of Dentistry. In addition, I hold membership in the Spear Education Dental Club, Ridgewood Valley Study Club, Ridgewood Young Professional Exchange, and I am a board member on the executive council of the Bergen County Dental Society as well as the current 2016-2017 President of the Bergen County Dental Society.
I have completed a postgraduate residency in dental implantology and I am certified 1 and 2 Invisalign dental provider. My fuel for learning is evident by my attendance in continuing education courses, which far surpasses the required amount of education, and training required each year.
I feel closely connected with the community in which I practice. My wife Emily and I both grew up in New Jersey and we are Bergen County residents residing in Waldwick, where we look forward to growing our family. One of our favorite activities is hiking with Hudson, our husky/pitbull rescue. As a practicing psychotherapist, Emily’s passion to care for people has helped broaden my understanding and has helped to better individualize the comprehensive dental treatment I provide.
The excitement I found in dentistry at age 12 continues today because of the dedicated team I work with, and the gracious patients I see daily at West Ridgewood Dental Professionals. Dentistry today continues to be a wonderful field because it enables me to serve my community and to improve the quality of my patients' lives. It is a profession that is continuously evolving allowing me to nourish my cravings to learn, to refine my art, and to provide my family of patients with the highest quality of oral care. In other words, I love what I do!
